Journal Of Nursing Practice (JNP) is committed to preserving its published scholarly record and maintaining access to journal content during technical disruption, platform migration, changes in journal management, or cessation of publication. This policy covers operational backups, digital preservation, recovery, and continuity of access.
1. Content Covered
The journal’s preservation procedures cover:
Confidential submissions, review reports, personal information, and administrative records are subject to separate access controls and retention arrangements. They must not be included in publicly accessible archives.
2. Responsibilities
Universitas STRADA Indonesia, as publisher, is responsible for arranging the technical resources and institutional support needed for preservation and continuity. The editorial office oversees the completeness and integrity of the published record. Authorized technical administrators manage backups, storage security, recovery procedures, and preservation-service monitoring. Records of backup operations, restoration tests, preservation deposits, and significant incidents must be retained for administrative review.
3. Operational Backups
The journal’s backup procedures require:
Backup frequency and retention periods must be documented by the technical administrator and reviewed according to publication activity and recovery needs. Operational backups support restoration of the journal website. They do not, by themselves, constitute independent long-term digital preservation.
4. LOCKSS and Independent Preservation
JNP provides a LOCKSS Publisher Manifest, which authorizes participating LOCKSS systems to collect, preserve, and serve the journal’s published archival units.
The publisher and technical administrator are responsible for verifying harvesting arrangements, successful preservation, and coverage of published issues. The existence of a manifest or enabled plugin alone must not be treated as confirmation that all content has been preserved.
Any claim of active coverage by LOCKSS, PKP Preservation Network, CLOCKSS, Portico, or another preservation service must be supported by service records, confirmed deposits, or other verifiable evidence. Coverage gaps and failed deposits must be investigated and addressed.
Information about preservation arrangements must be updated when services or coverage change.
5. Recovery, Migration, and Cessation of Publication
In the event of website failure, data loss, or a security incident, the publisher and technical administrator will assess the damage and restore content from verified recovery copies. Restored files and metadata must be checked before normal service resumes.
When the platform, hosting provider, domain, or publisher changes, migration procedures must preserve article files, metadata, publication dates, copyright information, and links between articles and editorial notices. DOI destinations and redirects must be updated where necessary.
If JNP ceases publication, the publisher will arrange continued custody and access through an appropriate institutional repository, library, successor publisher, or preservation service. The arrangement must identify the content transferred, responsible custodian, applicable access conditions, and continuing public location.
Where access depends on a preservation service’s release conditions, the publisher will coordinate with that service according to its agreement and procedures.
6. Integrity of the Scholarly Record
Preservation copies must retain the identity and publication history of each article. Corrections and retraction notices must remain linked to the affected publication. Retracted articles must be clearly marked and ordinarily remain accessible with their notices. Any exceptional restriction required for legal, privacy, or participant-protection reasons must be documented transparently. Published files must not be silently replaced in a way that conceals substantive changes. Relevant updates must be reflected in metadata and preservation deposits where supported.
7. Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit the published version of their articles in institutional or subject repositories in accordance with the license applicable to the article. Deposited copies should identify the version, acknowledge publication in JNP, include the DOI or article URL, retain copyright and licensing information, and link to any subsequent correction or retraction notice. Author self-archiving supplements the journal’s preservation arrangements but does not replace them.
8. Persistent Identification and Discovery
DOIs and structured metadata support identification, citation, and discovery. Indexing records, metadata harvesting, and DOI registration do not independently preserve article full text.
JNP’s OAI-PMH endpoint supports metadata harvesting. Published issues are available through the Journal Archives.
9. Monitoring and Contact
The publisher, editorial office, and technical administrator will review preservation arrangements at least annually and after significant infrastructure changes or incidents. The review must address backup reliability, restoration testing, preservation coverage, metadata integrity, and continuity arrangements. Report inaccessible articles, missing files, or preservation concerns to jnpstrada@gmail.com.
