Post-Publication Discussion

1. Purpose
Journal Of Nursing Practice (JNP) welcomes evidence-based discussion of its published articles. Scholarly comments, critiques, and author responses can clarify findings, identify limitations, and strengthen the scientific record. Post-publication discussion is distinct from a formal allegation of misconduct, although a discussion may reveal a concern requiring further assessment.

2. Submitting a Comment
Readers may send comments to jnpstrada@gmail.com with the subject line “Post-Publication Discussion.” A submission should include:

  • The article title and DOI or URL.
  • A clear explanation of the scientific issue.
  • Relevant evidence, references, or calculations.
  • The contributor’s name, affiliation, contact details, and conflicts of interest.

Comments may address methods, analysis, interpretation, reporting, or implications for nursing. There is no fixed deadline for raising a substantiated concern.

3. Editorial Assessment
An editor without a relevant conflict will assess the comment for relevance, accuracy, clarity, originality, and scholarly value. Independent expert advice may be sought where needed.
Comments must be respectful, evidence-based, and focused on the work. Personal attacks, promotional content, unsupported accusations, and unnecessary disclosure of confidential or identifiable information will not be published.
Comments may be returned for clarification or declined with an explanation. Disagreement with an article’s conclusions alone does not establish an error or misconduct.

4. Author Response
Where appropriate, the authors will be invited to respond within a stated reasonable period. Responses must address the scientific issues and provide supporting evidence where necessary. The editor may request clarification from either party. An author’s refusal or failure to respond does not prevent assessment of the concern or publication of a scientifically justified comment.

5. Publication of Discussion
Accepted comments and responses will be clearly identified as post-publication correspondence and linked to the original article. Where both are available, the comment and response will be linked to each other. This correspondence is handled separately from the journal’s four regular manuscript types. It undergoes editorial assessment and, where necessary, independent expert review. Contributors will be informed of the intended public attribution before publication. Personal contact details and confidential investigation records will not be published as part of the discussion.

6. Integrity Concerns and Amendments
A credible integrity concern will be assessed under the Allegations of Research Misconduct Policy, even if the associated comment is not published. Where the evidence warrants amendment of the article, JNP will follow its Corrections and Retractions Policy. Publication of a comment does not substitute for a necessary correction or other editorial notice. The original article will not be silently changed to resolve a substantive scientific disagreement.

7. Appeals and Records
Contributors may appeal an editorial decision by explaining their grounds and providing supporting evidence to jnpstrada@gmail.com. Appeals will receive independent consideration where a conflict exists. The journal will retain relevant correspondence, assessments, author responses, and decisions in its editorial records. Further information is available in the Publication Ethics Policy.
